RIYADH: China Civil, a giant engineering construction corporation company, is currently implementing various mega projects in Saudi Arabia, including CTW400 Railway Projects — Az-Zabirah junction to King Khaled International Airport (from Qassim to Riyadh), the Haramain high speed railway Phase 1 Package 1 project in Jeddah.
It is also engaged in the construction of a tunnel at the intersection of King Abdul Aziz road with Palestine and Al-Hamra streets in Jeddah, construction of bridge at the intersection of Arafat Road and Al-Kharj Road in Riyadh and two bridges (Abu Bakar Intersection and Prince Muteb Intersection) in Najran.
The company was established in 1979 according to the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. As one of the pioneers performing international contracting and economic cooperation, China Civil has been developed from the earlier Foreign Aid Bureau of the Ministry of Railways of China into a large-scale state-owned enterprise with Chinese National Super Grade Qualification for railway project contracting, and has been listed among the world’s top 225 international contractors for many consecutive years by the Engineering News Record, and run to 47 in 2015.
Ever since the 1960s when the company contracted the largest foreign aid project — Tanzania-Zambia Railway, it’s business scope has expanded from international contracting for railway construction to project contracting, civil engineering design and consultancy, real estate development, import and export trading as well.
The business activities have covered over 60 countries in Asia, Africa, America, Europe and Oceania with its overseas offices or subsidiaries established in more than 40 countries and regions.
In recent years, the firm has achieved rapid development, undertaking and executing numerous key projects ranging from railway, light rail, expressway to bridges, buildings, and municipal works.
The company has successfully signed contracts for many large-scale projects, such as Turkey Ankara-Istanbul Speed Railway Phase 2 (contract value: $1.27 billion) in 2008, Algerian 175 km Double Line Electrified Railway Project (1.728 billion euros) in 2009, Nigerian Railway Modernization Project-Abuja-Kaduna ($850 million) in 2010, Nigerian Costal Railway Project Framework Contract ($13.1 billion) in 2014, and many other large-scale railway and expressway projects in Ethiopia, Djibouti, among which the contract value of the Railway Project between Ethiopia and Djibouti hit $1.702 billion.
At present, it has 39 railway and metro projects under construction, with total contract value of $13.3 billion.
