JEDDAH: The police in the United States city of Cleveland, Ohio, have launched an investigation into claims a Saudi man was kidnapped, robbed and then dumped in a parking lot.
According to Cleveland’s Fox 8 News website the man was found April 12 in a parking lot in Garden Valley with a wound to his head. After getting him to the hospital, they learned that he was from Saudi Arabia and staying in a downtown hotel.
They made contact with the man’s daughter at the hotel who told them that her father had left the hotel earlier in the evening with two men, and that he had been drinking. She tried to get him to stay and leave $5,000 in cash he had in his possession, but he refused to do so, the report stated.
The report stated that the Saudi man had apparently met two men and two women at a bar earlier that night. He returned to the hotel to clean up before heading out with them again.
Shortly after leaving, the suspects “took him far away,” beat him and robbed him of cash, cell phone and jacket. This was later confirmed by police when they viewed surveillance video of the parking lot. The suspects’ vehicle, a white Pontiac Aztec, was also clearly seen on the video. The victim was scheduled to leave Cleveland the next day to stay with his daughter in Maryland.
