DUBAI: Saudi Arabian Airlines on Sunday home-delivered the delayed baggage of passengers who arrived on Thursday and Friday from Riyadh. Several passengers, who took their flights from Riyadh during the peak holiday season, reached their destinations without their baggage.
A Jordanian IT specialist, who arrived at the Dubai airport on Saturday, told Arab News that he was disappointed to see that his baggage did not come with him on the same flight. However, he added that he was happy that he got his bags within 24 hours.
An Asian expatriate, who was traveling to Dubai from Riyadh on Friday, said that by the time he checked into the airport his flight had left. However, he recalled that Saudi Airlines officials were kind enough to issue him another boarding pass on the next available flight.
Saudi Airlines official blamed a luggage carousel failure at terminals 2 and 3 at King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in Riyadh as the main reason for the chaos that caused the accumulation of 70,000 pieces of luggage on Thursday and Friday.
On Friday, passengers to Cochin, Dhaka, Mumbai and Cairo were delayed for more than 10 hours. Some of the passengers who were delayed missed their onward connections from western destinations from Dubai since they missed the flights from Riyadh due to the congestion.
Hamid Mohammed Iqbal, an Emirati who was home delivering the lost baggage said that he had to deliver more than 100 pieces of luggage from morning on Sunday.
