IIRO boosts aid support with UN refugee group

RIYADH: The International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) has welcomed further cooperation with UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide all possible humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced persons in all parts of the world, including food, shelter, clothing, health, education and social services among others.
This came during a meeting of the IIRO Secretary General Ihsan bin Saleh Tayyip in Jeddah on Monday with the Representative of High Commission for Refugees to Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States, Khalid Khalifa and the accompanying delegation. The IIRO is a charity based in Saudi Arabia founded by the Muslim World League in 1978. It’s a full member of The Conference of NGOs, where it serves on its board.
The IIRO is included in a list of some of the UNHCR’s major NGO partners and has been involved in many joint programs with UN Agencies and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations. It has also enjoyed consultative status on the UN Economic and Social Council since 1995. It was the first Islamic NGO to gain observer status with the International Organization for Migration. It is also a member of the International Humanitarian City based in Dubai.
During the holy month of Ramadan, the IIRO distributed 32,322 food baskets for breaking fast (ifar) and pre-dawn (suhoor) meals worth more than SR5 million in 27 countries in Asia and Africa.
