RIYADH: Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh has called on local banks, companies and businessmen to show support to the soldiers fighting on the southern border.
Speaking in a weekly program on Nidaul Islam Radio in Makkah, he called for donations to the fighters apart from the state support so that they may clear their debts and pay their bills.
“Businessmen ... must come forward as donors and contribute from their wealth to help those at the border,” Al-Asheikh said.
He said sacrificing money is greater than sacrificing oneself.
He said the state was doing its part. “It has ... spent money on the children of those fighters in the defense of the homeland ... and cared for their families, especially the martyrs,” he said.
“Non-governmental institutions of all kinds, including banks, must also show an honorable stand,” he added.
He also called on Saudi universities to follow the example of Imam Mohammed bin Saud Islamic University which has admitted martyrs’ sons and daughters “unconditionally.”
