With taxi booking application gradually becoming popular, women commuters feel comfortable to move around in the city.

The application available for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone devices helps passengers locate taxis in their immediate vicinity and access information about the distance of their journey. Moreover, passengers can contact the selected taxi driver from the number provided by the app to make the deal and to confirm their timely arrival.

The app has received praise from women.

“We face a lot of hassle while hiring a taxi at the street corner when they are five or more cars waiting to get business out of us. But this innovative idea has solved our taxi woes.” said Fatimah Rehman, a Jeddah resident.

Laila Yassar narrated her "wonderful experience" through the Easy Taxi app booking.

“It is a great initiative in terms of security and safety as women do not feel comfortable standing on the street waiting to get a taxi,” she said. “Moreover, with the journey being constantly updated it erases the fear of customer and there is no need to worry if you forget your belongings on the taxi because you already have the driver’s name and number.”

She added that the new method needs to be widely encouraged and practiced.

An official of taxi application said that they work with select drivers and sign up only those who provide excellent service. When the customer with the data connection tap opens the app and orders a taxi, within seconds the information about the car and the driver is relayed to the passenger’s smartphone.

He said the taxi fares remain the same and that the service is available 24/7.

Women find the app friendly and helpful.

Dr. Rania Saleh, a gynecologist, said: “This application can be used anytime, anywhere. I use it late night when my driver fails to pick me up.”
