A mall in the Eastern Province has banned people with shorts above the knee, pajamas, messy hair, skates, dogs and cats.

Smoking is also not permitted inside the mall. Stickers have been displayed at all the gates with this information, according to a report in an online publication on Friday.

Fuad Al-Fakhri, manager of Rashid Complex in Alkhobar Road, said the mall introduced the ban because people were regularly dressing inappropriately and un-Islamically, and bringing their pets to the center.

“We received complaints about some people wearing clothes that did not follow the customs and traditions of our society. Families had also been upset by smokers,” Al-Fakhri said.

He said security officials are implementing the new instructions and dealing politely with violators.

They are led quietly, without force outside the mall, while some are referred to the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

He said the Ministry of Interior has issued orders that allow government or commercial establishments to ban those wearing clothing that does not comply with Saudi traditions and Islamic values.
