The National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has seized SR 250 million in ill-gotten gains, according to the organization’s chief. Speaking at the opening here yesterday of a two-day symposium on the role of internal auditing in organizations, Muhammad Al-Sharif said that the money has been deposited in a special account.

Addressing an audience of Saudi and foreign experts, Al-Sharif added that Nazaha was instituting various measures to root out corruption in government departments.

Nazaha is linked directly to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to give the commission legal, financial and administrative independence, he said.

The organization’s broad powers and independence have enabled it to identify and crack down on all forms of corruption.

Al-Sharif saiad that strong internal auditing measures could protect public money and property, minimize fraud, detect and prevent errors, ensure the accuracy of financial statements and records, and adherence to set rules and regulations.
