RIYADH: At a time when a number of school leaders complained about the poor services of cleaning companies contracted by the Ministry of Education, the Riyadh Education Department spokesman stressed that it is the responsibility of school principals, due to their agreement to the violations, and should be held accountable.

Ali Al-Ghamdi told Al-Watan newspaper that when there is any problem in implementing the terms of the contract between the principal of the school and the company, the principal can halt any transaction with the company, and signing the certificate of completion means his satisfaction with the violations committed by it.

Al-Ghamdi pointed out that “each school principal is responsible for submitting the completion file to the Department of Education, which grants the dues to the companies. He is supposed to inform the Education Department about the company that refused to provide him with employment.”

He pointed also said that the school principal should not receive any material sums from the company in exchange for hiring workers, since this act is considered to be contrary to the law, and requires investigation with the school principal as a clear collusion.

“It is not reasonable for school principals to complain about signing certificates of completion between them and the operating company each month that are signed and sealed by the school,” Al-Ghamdi added.

He also said that “the company is obliged by the contract and the law to employ workers and providing cleaning materials, and any work otherwise is contrary to the law. Schools were emphasized in this regard.”

He also added that the school can terminate the company’s contract in full if it did not meet the terms of the two parties.
