RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center recently opened two schools in Yemen that were rehabilitated as part of a project to support education.

The Al-Ghurf and Bin Hamm elementary schools in Hadramout Governorate’s Tarim district underwent major rehabilitation to repair water damage.

Hadramout Undersecretary for Al-Wadi and Al-Sahra Amer Al-Amiri praised KSrelief for supporting education and improving the learning environment of Yemeni students.

He stressed the importance of the project in supporting the efforts of authorities and the Yemeni Ministry of Education in light of the situation in the country.

Al-Amiri also noted the preparedness of local authorities to offer support in building on KSrelief efforts across various sectors.

Salem Yamur, undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for the projects and preparations sector, praised the KSrelief scheme for rehabilitating schools in Yemen.

The project will cover the rehabilitation of 23 schools, including seven in Hadramout Governorate, in addition to the distribution of uniforms and school bags, benefiting 11,586 students in Hajjah, Aden, Hadramout and Mahra governorates.

It comes within the framework of humanitarian and relief projects provided by Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelief, to improve the educational system in Yemen.

Meanwhile, KSrelief also launched a project in Yemen to distribute shelter materials to people affected by torrential rain that swept Socotra Governorate.

About 70 tents and shelter bags were distributed in the Hadiboh and Qalansiyah districts, helping 420 people.

Socotra Governorate Undersecretary Brig. Gen. Saleh Ali Saad Al-Soqtari praised Saudi efforts to alleviate the suffering of families.

He added that the emergency aid comes as an extension of KSrelief efforts in a number of humanitarian and development sectors in the governorate.

As part of the project, as many as 6,000 tents and 9,000 shelter bags will be distributed to affected people in Socotra.
