JEDDAH: Coronavirus infections in Saudi Arabia fell below 300 on Wednesday for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The Saudi Health Ministry recorded only 290 cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). With these new cases, the total number of infections in the Kingdom since the beginning of the pandemic has risen to 354,208.

The ministry also recorded 411 new recoveries. The total number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 has reached 341,515.

Riyadh recorded the highest number of daily infections with 63 cases followed by Madinah with 29, Hail with 24, and Jeddah with 13 cases.

Eighteen more patients died of virus-related complications. With the new fatalities, the death toll now risen to 5,710.

Saudi Arabia has signed an agreement to receive early supplies of two or three different vaccines that have reached the final stages of their clinical trials.

The ministry urged anyone displaying possible symptoms of coronavirus disease to visit one of its Tetamman (Rest Assured) clinics to be tested for the virus. There are about 235 of the clinics are across the country, and appointments for tests can be booked through the Sehaty app.

The ministry has also set up health centers, called Takkad (Make Sure), to cater to people who show no or only mild symptoms of the disease, but think they might have come into contact with someone who was infected.
