RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has been awarded the presidency of the Aviation Security Committee of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization for a second consecutive term following a unanimous vote by member states.
By launching programs and initiatives through the organization, the Kingdom has helped to support aviation security around the world. The decision to award it a second term as president reflects its pivotal role in the air transport industry at both the regional and international levels.
Saudi Arabia has been a member of the organization since its creation in 1996. The Arab League-affiliated organization aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of civil aviation among its 21 members. The Kingdom also hosts the permanent headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Regional Safety Oversight Organization for the Middle East and North Africa, and the Cooperative Aviation Security Programme in the Middle East.
The Arab Civil Aviation Organization aims to conduct research and prepare studies, as appropriate, on the economic, regulatory, legal, and technical and security aspects of civil aviation among member states.
