RIYADH: The president of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), Awwad Al-Awwad, on Monday highlighted the progress Saudi Arabia has made to protect children in the cyber world.

He was speaking at a seminar organized by the HRC on child protection in the virtual world. The seminar highlighted the laws enacted by the Kingdom to ensure child protection in the online world. Experts from different government organizations and civil society institutions discussed the laws and their implementation in the Kingdom.

They also reviewed the progress made in this regard at the national level and suggested ways to step up online security for children.

Al-Awwad said the Kingdom has made a foolproof mechanism to protect children from online harassment and criminals who target them in the virtual world.

He expressed his satisfaction over the steps taken in this regard.

He said the Kingdom has taken many measures to strengthen the relevant regulatory and institutional frameworks to confront this menace.

The HRC is also looking to improve the quality of assistance and support provided to victims’ families, as well as finding the right means to reintegrate victims into schools.
