JEDDAH: A woman accused of kidnapping a newborn baby from an Al-Kharj hospital was arrested two days after the infant was returned and handed over to his family, Riyadh police said.
Security authorities in Al-Kharj received a report about the kidnapping of the baby from the maternity department of the hospital, spokesman of Riyadh police Col. Fawaz Al-Miman said.
In view of the enormity of the crime, Al-Kharj police mobilized all forces supported by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Research.
A 24-hour special room was activated, while a highly qualified team was formed to search for the kidnapped baby and arrest of the abductor.
After an intense investigation, security officials found the baby near a mosque in Al-Kharj.
They handed him over to his parents after completion of DNA tests.
In spite of the scarcity of information, the investigation department managed to arrest the major suspect behind the crime and all related persons in record time. The general prosecution in Kharj province was informed to complete the necessary actions.
Sources said the female suspect is a 30-year-old Saudi citizen, who is reported to suffer from a psychological disorder due to not having children.
