ISLAMABAD: Former South African cricketer A.B. de Villiers announced in a video message on Friday that he would participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament next year.

De Villiers is counted among the most outstanding players of all time, though his batting technique is more suited to modern-day cricket formats such as one-day internationals and Twenty20s.

A hard-hitting batsman, the former South African skipper won several matches for his national team during his career and turned out to be quite a sensation owing to his ability to hit the ball in any direction at the field.

In a video message, the legendary athlete praised the PSL, calling it “one of the top T20 tournaments around the world” that “has given Pakistanis much to cheer about.

“I have certainly enjoyed watching some of the PSL games on television in recent years,” he added. “But 2019 will be different: In 2019, I will be participating in the PSL. I certainly can’t wait. See you there!”

Toward the end of the message, de Villiers thanked his Pakistani viewers in their own language. It is yet to be seen which PSL team will host the South African player.
