RIYADH: As usual, it’s raining birdies in the CCOR (Canadian Community of Riyadh) golf event.

At the 4th Annual CCOR (Canadian Community of Riyadh) Open Golf Tournament 2016 held Thursday and Friday at Dirab Golf & Country Club all five winners in this four-ball Texas Scramble format competition with 3/4 handicap had gross scores in the low 60s.

The champion team of Anthony Forester Bennett, Abdulrahman Al Othman, Khalid Raja and Abdulaziz Kridis returned the winning tally of 54 from a gross score of 62 and team handicap of 8.

Lead player Bennett with a 15 handicap and Abdulrahman, No. 2 on the side with 17 handicap, each made three birdies while Raja and Kridis added two apiece as they navigated the flat but challenging layout on 29 coming out and 33 in for that sparkling 62.

The runner-up quartet of Bob Bruford, Qais Qureshi, Jonathan Corrigan and Nevill Elias was a stroke back on 63 to be on 55 after the team handicap of 8 was applied. They shot nines of 33-33, with 6-handicap lead player Bruford sinking four birdies, Qureshi three and Corrigan two.

The next three places were decided on countbacks after the teams involved tied on 56 from matching gross scores and handicaps of 64 and 8. Taking the third place with the best back nine score of 31 was the foursome of Gordon Rees, Neil Myres, Lois Barker and Jean Marc Coupet.

The tiebreak for fourth and fifth place went down to the last three holes. With a birdie-birdie finish for a 9 to 10 by the opponent on the last three holes, the team of Shahid Rabbani, Richard Hakanson, Brian Dreyer and Rodney Simonettti won out over the quartet of Tony Cotter, John Kirwan, Tariq Javed and Abdulaziz Al-Helaissi.

The skill prizes for men’s and ladies longest drive went to Jason Kniffen and Monika Schiffer, and the closest to the pin to Richard Hakansson.

Capping the two-day event was the gala awards night on Friday.
