Almarai Company not only produce healthy food products but do encourage the employees to be healthy through various sporting events as well.

The Season-2 Badminton Tournament organized at the Almarai Head Office Villa badminton court, Exit 7, Al-Ishdihar District, concluded here recently. The gala evening was attended by more than 100 Almarai employees, including officials and organizers.

Ibrahim and Riyaz won the champion trophy with Sasikumar and Shanoof runners-up. Suresh and Sunil secured 3rd place and Owen and Ace took the fourth position. A total of 72 players and 21 officials took part in the month-long event.

With the theme ‘Focus on the Goal” the tournament is aimed at promoting the physical and mental well-being of employees and enhancing their productivity for the company. “The stress was on the creation of a cohesive work environment,” said Bharthi Mohan, head of the Human Resources, who was the chief guest of the event.

The tournament format was league match type comprising three groups of 12 teams each. Point based first and second rounds matches were like elimination round leading to Super Six matches. Two best teams from each group qualified for Super Six matches and top four teams advanced to the semifinal round based on the maximum points scored.

The finals was a best-of-three series format while the last two teams from the semifinals played a knockout game for third and fourth position. Yasantha Fonseka and Kaunain Shahidi were the chief organizers, who were supported by officials namely Samir Shaik, Rudhra Suresh, Sunil Ponnankutti, Disnakantha Batugahagedon and Rajavel Murugaiyan.

Regular games were played on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 6 p.m. onwards for almost a month. Mohan, senior managers Ramesh Nair, . Kaunain Shahidi, . Hasham Rehman, Irfan Tabrez, and Yasantha Fonseka attendeed the closing ceremony and prize distributions. Luisine Marketing Department headed by Group Marketing Manager Nishit Mathur sponsored the tournament.
