DAMMAM: From a starting record field of 63 teams, the largest ever in the region, eight teams led by the centerpiece Rated A Open Division champion Khobar Warriors were left standing at the close of the Damam Basketball League 10th Season at Al-Nahda Sports Club here.

The four months long tourney was sponsored by Ahmad Hamad Al-Gosaibi Brothers Co., according to organizer Ely Panahon, who thanked the participating teams for their support in helping make the event a success.

Panahon said they had to create the eight division to accomodate a huge number of teams in the tournament dubbed ”Challenge Cup 2015.”

In the Rated A Open Division, Khobar Warriors defeated Cladma in double overtime 108-105 to clinch the championship crown.

MVP Jerome Delica hit a buzzer-beating three to cap a 19-point performance while insuring victory for the Warriors. Anthony Arguilles added 21 points and James Chua 20. Tito Pineda is the team manager-head coach of the champion team with Bong Reyes as assistant coach. Christian Malasmas who lost the MVP race to Dalica had 18 points and 6 assists for Cladme managed by Wilson Brua and Pol Blance and coached by Ericson Amores. Dennis Bedico and Jonathan Tamayo added 23 points.

Results in other championship games are as follows:

Inter-Company A Division APEP beat Zamil Industries 81-70 (MVP James Chua), Inter-Company B Division DSCO beat Hempel Paints 91-61 (MVP J. Vence), Inter-Company C Division Radicon beat Sandstorm 84-70 ( MVP V. Altes), Inter-Company 70/30 Division Ahab beat Pars Arcon 93-90 (MVP Dino Flores), Non-Rated B Division Ahab Warriors beat UKAA 72-66 (MVP Jerome Lazaro), Non-Rated C Division Doha Boys beat East Panther 75-72 (MVP U Intea), Non-Rated D Division Pars Speed beat Tropang Panda 82-68 (MVP Reyes)

MVPs in each division received a prize of Samsung Galaxy smartphone. The next tournament is set to open March 4, organizers said.
