PHILADELPHIA: John Lannan tossed four-hit ball over eight innings against his former team and Ben Revere had three hits as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 in the National League on Monday.

Lannan (2-3) had four strikeouts in his longest outing in four years. The lefty registered 12 groundouts to beat the team he played for his first six seasons in the majors.

Jonathan Papelbon allowed two runs in a shaky ninth to earn his 19th save in 23 tries.

Dan Haren (4-10) came off the disabled list and took the loss after missing two weeks because of right shoulder inflammation. Haren allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings, striking out a season-high seven.

Revere and Jimmy Rollins, the 1-2 hitters in Philadelphia’s lineup were 5 for 9 with three runs and one RBI.

Braves 7 Marlins 1, 14 innings: In Miami, Justin Upton and Gerald Laird each drove in two runs in the 14th inning and the division-leading Atlanta Braves put together a brilliant bullpen performance to get past the bottom-feeding Miami Marlins, 7-1, in the opener of a three-game NL East series.

There were a lot of zeroes put up by both bullpens, and Miami’s relievers had retired a remarkable 24 consecutive hitters leading up to the deciding inning. Chris Hatcher (0-1), called up from Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday, couldn’t sustain the lights- out effort in his first big-league appearance of the season, as the Braves batted around with four hits and three walks.

Five Braves relievers combined for 5 2/3 hitless innings before Giancarlo Stanton led off the 13th with a single off David Carpenter (2-0), who stranded two in the frame and earned the win in the four-hour, 14-minute pitching duel. Mike Minor did not factor in the decision despite allowing just one run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings for Atlanta, which had lost four of five coming in.

Kevin Slowey, back in Miami’s rotation as a result of Ricky Nolasco being traded to the Dodgers, was pulled after allowing four hits and one walk over five scoreless innings.

Brewers 4 Reds 3: In Milwaukee: Carlos Gomez robbed Joey Votto of a go-ahead homer with two outs in the ninth inning as the Milwaukee Brewers edged the Cincinnati Reds, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set at Miller Park. Francisco Rodriguez walked pinch-hitter Derrick Robinson with two outs to bring Votto, the go-ahead run to plate.

Francisco delivered a 2-2 fastball over the heart of the plate and Votto drove it deep to center field, but Gomez timed his jump at the wall perfectly, reached over and snagged a sure homer to secure the win for the Brewers.

Jean Segura went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Jonathan Lucroy added a two-run homer for Milwaukee, which has won two of its last three games. Kyle Lohse (5-6) gave up three runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings to win his fourth straight decision. Chris Heisey homered while Jay Bruce and Xavier Paul added one RBI apiece for the Reds, losers in three of their last four games.

Homer Bailey (5-7), coming off his second career no-hitter, was charged with four runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings.
