- The Reds have won five from five so far this season.
- Eden Hazard inspires Chelsea to victory over Cardiff at Stamford Bridge.
LONDON: Jurgen Klopp praised his Liverpool side after they easily beat Tottenham 2-1 at Wembley.
Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino were enough to gift the Reds all the points as they made it five wins from five matches so far this season. And while an away victory is something that would make any manager happy Klopp claimed it was Liverpool’s best performance of the campaign.
“What a game from my boys — that was really, really good, the Liverpool boss said.
“Tottenham are one of the best teams in world football, and to come here and perform like that after the international break ... I didn’t take that for granted.
“We were defensively good, offensively good, and the performance was better than the result. It was perhaps a but nervy at the end but no problem. I have nothing to be critical about today. If you win games and you’re not 100 percent with the performance it’s still three points —it’s a deserved result.”
A late goal from Erik Lamela in injury time did not mask the difference between the teams and Mauricio Pochettino did not attempt to suggest anything different.
“Liverpool were better. We competed, we were close,” the Spurs coach said. “We must keep working and improving.”
Elsewhere, an Eden Hazard hat-trick helped Chelsea maintain their unbeaten start to the season. The Blues beat Cardiff 4-1 at home to ensure they kept pace with Liverpool at the top of the table.
Maurizio Sarri is still to taste anything but victory in English football, but had a scare early on at home to Cardiff when Sol Bamba put the visitors in front at Stamford Bridge.
However, Cardiff's failure to significantly strengthen over the summer means they are liable to being outclassed at this level and were undone by the brilliance of Hazard.
The diminutive Belgian scored twice in seven minutes to send Chelsea in ahead at half-time and completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot before Willian added a fourth.
Meanwhile defending champions Manchester City are just two points behind Liverpool and Chelsea after they tore apart Fulham 3-0 thanks to goals from Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Sterling.
