6 Directors at Cannes to know

The Cannes Film Festival will feature an impressive list of films by regional and Muslim directors during its 74th edition taking place July 6 to 17.

    Nabil Ayouch

    The French-Moroccan television and film director, who is based in Paris, will be competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or for his film “Casablanca Beats,” which is about youngsters who live in Casablanca’s Sidi Moumen slums.

    Hafsia Herzi

    The Tunisian-Algerian actress, famed for her performance in Abdellatif Kechiche’s ‘The Secret of the Grain,’ will be premiering her second film as a director, “Bonne Mere,” during Cannes. It will show in the Un Certain Regard section.

  3. Karim Ainouz
    Karim Ainouz

    Born to a Brazilian mother and an Algerian father, the movie director’s new film “Mariner of the Mountains” will be screened in the Special Sessions section of the Cannes Film Festival.

    The director will be representing Turkey at the film festival with his movie “Commitment Hasan.”
