6 films to look forward to at CIFF 2020

The 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), scheduled to take place from Dec 2-10, has revealed the first batch of films set to screen at the cinematic event.

  1. ‘Lift Like A Girl’
    ‘Lift Like A Girl’
    The Egyptian documentary film by director Mayye Zayed follows a 14-year-old weightlifter who is on the journey to fulfilling her dream of becoming a world champion. 
  2. ‘Curfew’
    ‘Curfew’
    Written and directed by Amir Ramses, the film, starring Amina Khalil, will have its world premiere during the 42nd edition of CIFF.
  3. ‘Gaza Mon Amour’
    ‘Gaza Mon Amour’
    The Palestinian feature film, directed by twin brothers Tarzan and Arab Nasser, will make its Arab region premiere in the International Competition of the festival.
  4. ‘Nomadland’
    ‘Nomadland’
    Directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Frances McDormand, the Oscar-tipped road trip movie is about a community of elderly, nomadic idealists who roam across America.
  5. ‘The Disciple’
    ‘The Disciple’
    Produced by Alfonso Cuarón, the film’s story revolves around a young Indian boy who dedicates his life to following his dream of becoming a classical Indian singer.
  6. ‘Mogul Mowgli’
    ‘Mogul Mowgli’
    A British-American production directed by Bassam Tariq and starring Riz Ahmed, the film follows the journey of a British-Pakistani rapper who is struck down by an illness that threatens to derail his big break.
