Artists have been using their creativity to interpret the tragic explosion that ripped through Beirut on Aug. 4 to pay tribute to those affected.
Fatima Dia
In the Lebanese artist’s “Rising Angels,” which was auctioned to help the homeless, ethereal little angels rise from the blast.
Alain Daoud
The artist’s acrylic “Till Chaos Feels Like Home” captures the instant before the explosion demolished homes and injured victims.
Lara Ghattas
In the Beirut-based graphic designer’s artwork, she shows that despite the city’s cracked buildings and destroyed streets, a colorful flag still stands strong. “We will rebuild you, that’s a promise,” the artist wrote on Instagram, addressing Lebanon.
Ivan Debs
The artist created more than five artworks to express how he feels about the destruction. Among his creations was a cartoon of Yara, the young girl who was heavily scarred in the blast.
Allan Debs
Allan Debs, Ivan’s younger brother, also shared his artistic take on the explosion. He drew Lebanon as a stunning woman in a floral dress walking through the city’s ruins.
Mahmud Awad
In Mahmud Awad’s drawing, Beirut is represented as a flower bouquet in a cracked pot with the explosion rising from the center of the vase.
