On Monday, A-listers, editors and fashion loyalists descended upon Marrakesh’s magnificent Palais El-Badi for the unfolding of Dior’s Resort 2020 show. Though the storied French maison has a track record of showcasing special collections in exotic far-flung locales across the globe, it was the first time that Dior hosted an event in the North African country.

    An embroidered military jacket is paired with a knife pleated skirt for a feminine touch.

    Models accessorized their encrusted gowns with Murano glass bead bracelets, which originated in Venice and found their way to Africa through 16th century trade routes.

  3. Bringing camo back
    Bringing camo back

    The 113-look collection was punctuated with camouflage print, including on oversized windbreakers, cargo pants and jackets.

  4. Focus on textiles
    Focus on textiles

    Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated with a lineup of designers and artisans from Africa, including Ivory-Coast based studio and factory, Uniwax, whose playful textile played a central role in the designs.

  5. Pared-down designs
    Pared-down designs

    The offering also included more pared-down designs in the form of expertly-cut coats and fringed skirts in neutral color palettes.

  6. That’s a wrap
    That’s a wrap

    Renowned milliner Stephen Jones collaborated with a Ghanaian-British headwear designer named Martine Henry on the head wraps and turbans sported by a handful of the models.
