RIYADH/JEDDAH: The support of the Kingdom for the November revolution in Algeria 58 years ago is evident from the solidarity between the people of the two countries, said Salah Attia, the Algerian consul general on Tuesday.
The Algerian Consulate in Jeddah also commemorated the 50th anniversary of liberating the Algerian lands and restoring the national sovereignty.
“We can be proud of our country’s stability and economic prosperity, which covers all aspects of life as part of a comprehensive development plan,” said Attia.
“This year, Algeria celebrates the 50th anniversary of independence amid the achievements made by the country; for that reason, we have the right to be proud of the stability and economic prosperity which covers all aspects of life as part of a comprehensive development plan,” he added.
Attia told Arab News that he is extremely happy by not only celebrating the Algerian national day but also are celebrating Eid-ul-Adha and the new Hijra year as well together with the Algerian community living in Saudi Arabia and Saudi brothers.
He further said the project of National Reconciliation, launched in 2006 by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to end the civil war in his country, enabled Algeria to achieve security, stability, developmental growth, eliminating foreign debts, and supplying the State Reserve Fund with a total amount of $ 180 billion (SR 675 billion).
Algerian Ambassador Abdelouahab Derbal in Riyadh said that his country’s relations with Saudi Arabia are rooted in history and shared Islamic values. The relations of the two countries predate even the establishment of the two countries.
“Our relations are deep-rooted and built on mutual trust and confidence. It is a unified relation and one civilization,” the ambassador said, adding that they still need a great effort and teamwork to deepen the relations.
The economic boost allowed Algeria to give a loan of $ 5 billion (almost SR 19 billion) to the International Monetary Fund in October 2012. Algeria has also allocated, as part of its sustainable development strategy, an amount of $ 286 billion (SR 1,072 billion) in order to finance developmental projects between 2010 tand 2014.
In 2011, Saudi investments in Algeria reached SR 3 billion in pharmacological, cement, mineral, paper and chemical fields.
Mohammed Ahmed Al-Tayeb, director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said he was very pleased that the Saudi government is playing an important role in the development of Algeria’s economy.
“Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that people should come out from the darkness to light. It is a very pleasant occasion, as the new Islamic year starts soon, to celebrate the Algerian national day.”
I am very happy that we are celebrating the Algerian national day together on such an occasion,” said Tayeb “Hijra showed the way of strong will, which was also showed by the martyrs of Algeria, this occasion is not important only for Algeria but for whole Muslim world for stability,” he added.
