Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has signed an agreement with US-based iPass for cooperation in the Wi-Fi data roaming services. With this, it steps into a new era for enriching customers scattered around the world with Wi-Fi data roaming services on their smart phones and tablets at more than 1.2 million sites in 113 countries. The agreement was announced during the World Mobile Congress currently held in Barcelona, Spain.

STC CEO Khaled Al-Ghoneim said: “Such agreements mirror our mutual desire to identify and evaluate potential areas for partnership across many markets in which STC is present.” The agreement with iPass, claimed to be the biggest Wi-Fi network service provider and which offers its services to hotels, airports, and aircraft, will greatly enhance STC Group’s services platform, in line with international roaming technologies.

STC succeeded through its collaboration with Maxis and Oger in achieving a pioneering position in the global fixed and mobile telecommunication scene. In 2010, the three groups jointly launched a series of global initiatives focused on capturing synergies across their 9 operating companies and working with top global suppliers to become preferred partners based on value creating agreements. Among these initiatives, focusing on international roaming and data transfer services is based on the Wi-Fi technology aimed at offering competitive prices and discounts based on the commercial scale of all 3 Groups.
