No immediate driving licenses in Saudi Arabia ... all must attend courses

RIYADH: The director general of Traffic Department, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Bassami, announced the cancelation of the immediate test for a driving license, and said that those who wish to obtain licenses must attend training courses.

“Those who wish to obtain a new driving license and are not good at driving should attend a 90-hour training course, while those who are good at driving should attend a 30-hour training course,” Al-Bassami said in a press statement to Saudi Press Agency on Monday.

Additionally, 120-hour training courses will be available.

Security officer, suspect killed in drugs bust gun fight

DUBAI: A security officer was killed in a gun fight on Tuesday that broke out during a drugs and alcohol raid in Saudi Arabia, state news agency SPA reported.

Security forces were searching a property in the Asir area during the night when a group of men opened fire.

A gun fight broke out during which one of the security forces and one of the suspects – an Ethiopian man - were killed, and a Saudi national was also injured.

The officer killed was later identified as Captain Abdullah Asiri.

Security officers also arrested four other Ethiopians after a chase in the mountainous region.
