DUBAI: Lebanon’s police have carried out the largest drugs bust in the country’s history, seizing 15,000kgs of cannabis – that is enough to cover an entire five-a-side football pitch, the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) reported in a statement.

The massive haul was found at a warehouse in Lebanon’s Ouzai district.

Members of the ISF also detained an Italian who was part of a group smuggling cocaine hidden in bottles intended for alcoholic drinks through international airports and into Lebanon.
The group of four Italians, two Brazilians, an Argentinian and a German “specialized in smuggling large quantities of cocaine into Lebanon,” the statement added.
