Saudi Arabia hosts IAEA for review of nuclear power infrastructure

JEDDAH: King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy is hosting the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in July for an integrated review of Saudi Arabia’s atomic energy infrastructure.
This integrated infrastructure review (INIR) is a holistic peer review to assist member states in assessing the status of their national infrastructure for the introduction of nuclear power.
The international organization will be in Saudi Arabia from July 15 to 24 to review Saudi Arabia’s efforts in creating an infrastructure to introduce the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The body will also ensure that the Saudi National Atomic Energy Project is in line with the IAEA requirements.
It also stresses that the Saudi project gets the agency’s approval, as well as the international community’s support, to promote the principles of transparency.

Pope prays for those stricken by California wildfires

VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis has prayed for victims of California’s wildfires and freezing weather on the US East Coast.
Addressing tens of thousands of faithful in St. Peter’s Square Sunday, including pilgrims from New York and New Jersey. Francis prayed that “the Lord welcome the deceased into his peace, comfort family members and sustain all those involved in rescue efforts.”
Francis said he wanted to offer a “special prayer to all those stricken by the fires that are scourging California, and now also for the victims of the freeze of the east coast of the United States.”
At least 76 people perished, and hundreds are unaccounted for in the California wildfires. In the eastern US, an unusually early winter snowstorm last week was blamed for at least seven deaths.
