The father of a 14-year-old boy has appealed to authorities to help treat his son, who suffered burns all over his body after falling victim to a short circuit on the street.
“My son, Abdulmohsen Al-Buraid Asiri, must be treated at a hospital specialized in burn cases,” the grief-stricken man told Arab News.
The incident took place in September.
“The Al-Nahdha Company had left a newly asphalted road open at a nearby village, leaving the debris and dirt piled up at the site,” he said.
“Abdulmohsen was playing near the area. When he raised his hand, we realized that he had suffered burns all over his body,” he said.
He added that he transferred his son to a health center, where a doctor and a nurse then helped transfer him by ambulance to Muhail Hospital and then to Asir Central Hospital.
“I called the police and Civil Defense at a local police center to ask if they were notified of the incident and was shocked to find out that they hadn’t,” he said.
“The Civil Defense director advised me to appeal to the local police and to capture a snapshot of the site, but the company removed any leftover work material to hide evidence of neglect.”
“That, however, does not negate what happened,” he said.
The father demands that the company be severely punished for neglect.
“I am in dire need of financial assistance to help get treatment for my son,” he said.
Saed Al-Hayani, head of the local police center, said the center had received a complaint from the boy’s uncle and had addressed the Civil Defense and other security bodies to study the location and identify the cause of the fire.
Al-Hayani told Arab News that reports would be submitted for further action if the company is proven guilty of the charges.
