Security forces on Thursday arrested a suspect in the shooting of two German diplomats in January this year.
Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said officers wounded the man during an exchange of gunfire as he tried to escape. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Two other people who accompanied him have also been arrested.
The suspect, Salem bin Abdullah bin Hussain, is accused of shooting at a car belonging to the German Embassy on Jan. 13 in Awamiya. The car caught fire and the unhurt two German diplomats were rescued by citizens.
The man has allegedly committed other crimes, including shooting people, armed robbery and threatening the lives of citizens in Awamiya, said Al-Turki.
Al-Turki said the security forces would not tolerate people trying to cause chaos in the country. He called on people involved in such activities to surrender.
