Asif's ex-girlfriend gives match-fixing evidence

By ASSOCIATED PRESS

ISLAMABAD: The former girlfriend of Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif met International Cricket Council officials investigating match-fixing after commenting on her suspicions of Asif's behavior.

Actress Veena Malik's manager, Sohail Rashid, said Thursday that she met ICC anti-corruption officials on Wednesday evening.

"She has shown whatever evidences she had to anti-corruption unit officials," Rashid said. "I can't comment on this matter further than this." Malik had told Associated Press Television News that an Indian man frequently called and sent text messages to Asif, which she found suspicious.

Pakistan will not include the trio of suspected players — Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Asif — in the two Twenty20 and one-day internationals against England.

All three were accused by a British tabloid of a plan to deliberately bowl no-balls during the fourth test against England at Lord's.

Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed said in Taunton that the three players were not suspended but that they will not play in the remainder of the tour.

Saeed said he would be asking for replacements to increase the squad to 16 for the ODIs.

Meanwhile, foreign office spokesman Abdul Basit said that it was better to wait till the Scotland Yard finished its inquiry into the allegations.

"Investigations are still on and we have not yet received comprehensive report from our high commission in London," Basit said. "It is better to wait till then rather saying any thing at this stage."

Only three players maybe four are under suspicion? That seems like a joke to me. My guess just about everyone on the team knew what was going on and at least 75% of them are on the take.

the players did nothing unusual. they did what their parents do, their friends do, their neighbors do, their govt functionaries do, what every one else, who can do, does. what is all the fuss about. this is neem-na-pakistan, a sinking ship . . .

Well another Match(spot) fixing case up ! I had heard one renowned player telling that most of the Pakistani players come from weak financial backgrounds and when they come into the limelight , they cant handle it and fall for ill ways. Whereas it doesnt happen much with other teams as it is rampant with the Pakistani team! I think the solution to this menace is that the PCB (rotten autocrats) should conduct the players in a more honorable way rather than bashing them every now and then with senseless bans and so . And most importantly with a handsome pay which will automatically help them refrain from falling for match fixing nets. They can carry on their game with more concentration and security! For it is the sense of insecurity that is prevailing in the team that has hurt their decorum. MD.Asif is a superb talent and I love to see him bowl and Md.Amir is surely here to stay with making his name up to the mantle to be counted in as one of the best bowling talents produced by the nation. Its just that cricket board needs to understand their feelings and actions and mould it in a more positive or else, the match fixing, spot fixing etc etc is here to stay and to rot the blooming Pakistani team!
Good bye!
