JEDDAH, 1 May — La Cuisine has always been a posh restaurant and frankly it just keeps getting better. Naturally there have been competitors along the way but it still remains on the A-list. Since 8 April, La Cuisine’s executive chef, M. François Mouroux, has been presenting a mouthwatering lobster menu. And he knows what he’s doing. He may be new at La Cuisine but he knows what he’s doing. His food tells me that so if you like VIP treatment — which I’m sure you do — a delicious complimentary drink and exquisite lobster dishes, you should waste no time in getting there.
On Sunday night there is a set-menu for 100SR plus 15% service. For starters, there is a choice of lobster cream soup, salade homardine, croustilles de homard avec sauce safranee and homard en belle-vue. I ordered the croustilles de homard — crispy pastries stuffed with lobster and vegetables and I found them delicious as did my two friends. One of them who ordered soup said it was a bit too fishy, if that’s possible.
For the main course, the choices are homard a l’Armoricain, homard grille, bearer citron, homard thermidor and bouchee a la reine de homard. Each of us ordered a different dish and all agreed that everything was excellent. One even declared that it was just too much lobster for one night. “Why don’t they make it seafood night?” she wondered. Personally I think that Jeddah has enough seafood restaurants. Besides lobster night is a new idea and a unique one at that. I loved my bouchee a la reine; it was perfect and I finished it to the last bite.
Oh, and let’s not forget dessert, I will never give up my chocolate soufflé. But if you have the will power, go for the caramel soufflé or the unbelievable nougat glace, coulis de fraises, or the wonderful creme brulee a la fleur d’orange. Last but not least they have Tarte Tatin aux Pommes et Cannelle which is apple pie served with vanilla ice cream. My mouth watered at the mere sight of it.
What else can I say? Great is what it is. If you don’t like Lobster, you can order from the regular menu. What they want is to satisfy the customer. We had a delightful evening and a wonderful time. La Cuisine, you’ve brought new meaning to our Sunday nights!
