I am shocked by the ignorance by the Arab media of the British politics. Most of the Arab newspapers described Tony Blair’s return to N0. 10 Downing Street as unprecedented in the Labour Party’s history. They are not aware that Harold Wilson, a Labour leader of the sixties, won the elections to form a government in 1964. he Dissolved the parliament in 1966 and was re-elected in the same year. He was also elected in 1974 to form a government with the support of the Liberal Party. His third consecutive victory proved the death knell to the political life of the then Conservative leader Edward Heath.

Margaret Thatcher was a better choice over Heath because he was unpopular with the Jews. They disliked him because he did not allow American warplanes to refuel at British airbases during the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. He froze of arms sales to Israel and Arab states . Heath’s government was, in fact, attempting to undo some of the earlier damage dome by the British government beginning with the Balfour Declaration permitting the foundation of a Jewish state in the heart of Arab-dominated Palestine. The migrant Jews were so inhuman in their treatment of the native Palestinians that they terrorized, murdered and drove them away  from their homes and farms. The Israeli government supported and organized terrorist activities under leaders such as Ariel Sharon, the current prime minister and former defense minister who masterminded the massacres at the Sabra and Shatilla refugee camps in which nearly 800 unarmed people including women and children were butchered.

It is unfortunate that President George W. Bush has been persuaded by his National Security Advisor Rice to welcome a political leader who has Arab blood on his hands and is involved in gross human right violations.

Tony Blair did not win the recent election because he had some magical formula to solve some basic problems — increasing unemployment and immigration — facing Britain. Neither did he defeat his rivals because of the leadership crisis in the Conservative Party for which Margaret Thatcher is blamed. Thatcher did not like any of the competent Tory leaders including Ian Gilmour and Francis Pym. Pym was unpopular among Zionists because during his tenure as the foreign minister he blocked supply of arms to Israel following the 1982 Lebanon invasion. In order to please her Jewish friends Thatcher did not support Pym during the 1983 elections. He was replaced by Geoffrey Howe, a calm diplomat and Thatcher’s long-time associate who turned against her later.

In the final analysis it becomes clear that Blair’s landslide was because of his unquestioning obedience to the US dictates on issues related to Israel.  He supported Israel without asking if its actions were right or wrong. He became more popular among Jews than Wilson was because Blair did not bother about the Arab reactions and because he never condemned the ongoing murders of children and unarmed civilians in Palestine. However, his decision to remove Robin Cook from the Foreign office, has closed the last chance to improve Britain’s relations with Arab countries. Cook has been replaced by pro-Zionist Jack Straw.
