TRIVANDRUM, 6 July — Chief Minister A. K. Antony would formally launch the Asianet Global, the second Malayalam channel of the Asianet Communications Limited, at a function to be held at the channels studios here tomorrow.
While Asianet is mainly an entertainment channel, Asianet Global will be a niche channel targeting the literate Malayalee and non-resident Keralites. The digital channel’s programming profile will encompass news, current affairs, movies and events, a press release said.
More than a year and half ago the existing Asianet Channel offered a separate band (Asianet Global) from 23.00 hrs targeting the NRKs and taking advantage of the different time zones. The Global is now becoming a stand-alone round the clock news channel.
There will be special bulletins on Regional News, Business, Sports, Weather, Info-tech, Employment, Cultural roundup, Travelogues, Seminars, Discussions, Quiz, etc. Asianet’s huge movie library will also form part of Asianet Global’s programming, it said.
