JEDDAH, 6 August — The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs met here yesterday and discussed the possibility of unifying the dates of Ramadan and Eid festivals in the Islamic world. “The meeting, chaired by Prince Sultan, second deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, discussed a number of Islamic issues including ways to remove the differences among Islamic countries on sighting moon for Ramadan and the two Eids. It studied prospects of uniting Muslims on Ramadan and Eids,” Dr. Saleh Al-Ayed, the Council’s secretary-general told the Saudi Press Agency. “Islam has urged Muslims to unite and shed their differences. The best among Muslims are those who unite on Shariah,” Ayed quoted Prince Sultan as telling the meeting. He said the council would present its recommendations to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd for his endorsement.
