RIYADH, 7 August — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd has ordered the urgent dispatch of relief supplies to aid victims of floods in Burkina Faso.

Chairman of the Saudi Red Crescent Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Suwailem announced that a plane carrying basic necessities, including food and medical supplies, would fly to Burkina Faso today.

Al-Suwailem said that Saudi Arabia would also dispatch 100 tons of food supplies to the flood-stricken republic by sea. The republic has suffered devastating floods that made thousands of people homeless and caused the outbreak of deadly epidemics.

Al-Suwailem added that Saudi Arabia recently sent two planes carrying relief materials to Ghana, another African country ravaged by floods. It has also donated food to people left homeless by floods in the South African city of Cape Town while pledging more long-term help to that city’s shack dwellers.

The Saudi Embassy in Pretoria handed out two tons of maize to residents of the community whose shacks had been flooded by heavy winter rains.
