ABHA, 7 August — Security officers are investigating three thefts at a girls’ school in the southern city of Khamees Mushayt.

Brig. Saeed Saad ibn Arem, director of police in the city, told Arab News that the thefts took place at the government school complex due to lack of security guards.

He said he had told the supervisor of the intermediate school several times to beef up security, but to no avail.

Arem said investigations were under way, and the police already have an idea who may have been responsible. “There are clues which will eventually help track down the culprits,” he added.

Ali Saad Al-Qahtani, acting director of the girls’ education department in Khamees Mushayt, said the assistant director of the school had informed him that there were cracks on doors that indicated somebody had broken into the institution.

Police have urged the school authorities to give them an estimate of the damage caused by the thefts.

In a separate development, the Presidency of the Girls’ Education in Jeddah has approved new uniforms for girl students at different levels. The new uniform code will be applied from the beginning of next academic year.
