MAKKAH, 29 August — The Commerce Ministry’s office in the Makkah region has launched a campaign for the withdrawal of what they have termed “indecent female lingerie and underwear” from the market. The campaign is being carried out on the directives of senior government officials, Al-Madinah reported yesterday. In directives to the ministry, also forwarded to the Commission for Promoting Virtue and Preventing Vice, these officials emphasized the need to do away with the display and promotion of such items, “as they endanger society’s morality”. Al-Madinah said the directives came in the wake of a report carried by the paper about how sexy female lingerie is widely available throughout the Kingdom.
