JEDDAH, 13 September - There are about 20,000 mental patients in Jeddah, according to Dr. Muhammad Shawesh, director of the Mental Hospital in the city. "Last year some the hospital treated about 20,000 patients," he said. The figure is 30 percent bigger than that of the previous year. He attributed difficult social and economic situations as the main cause for the increasing number of mental patients.
