JEDDAH, 1 October — Free medical and dental consultations will be available to Filipinos in Jeddah and nearby places at the Philippine Consulate on Oct. 50.
Organized by the Bag-ong Bicol Saro nin Jeddah, the medical mission will open at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Yolly Villegas, chair the group’s welfare committee, said several Filipino doctors, dentists, nurses and other health professionals have volunteered for the worthy cause.
The medical mission follows the successful holding fo the BBSJ’s annual Peñafrancia event, in which five so-called “Most popular Working Women of the New Millenium” were chosen.
Topping this year’s event was Lynette Santos, a fashion designer, who was given the title Miss Peñafrancia.
Villegas said the victory of Ms. Santos, a native of Naga City, is a timely gift on her birthday on Friday.
Maricel Garcia, a nurse at King Faisal Specialist Hospital, garnered the Miss Bicolandia titled.
Michelle Garcia, a nurse at Fakeeh Hospital, was named Miss Bag-Ong Bicol Saro.
Rhoda May Flores, a nurse at Baksh Hospital, is this year’s Miss Daragang Magayon (Muse of Mayon).
Jocell Mecenario, a nurse at Bugshan Hospital, was named Miss Ibalon.
BBSJ, currently led by its president Dawood Engay, holds the Peñafrancia event yearly to raise funds for its different projects, including its scholarship program, as well as welfare and assistance to members who are in need, said Villegas.
