The Americans are captives of their media, press and publications. In fact, many of the US troops in the Gulf War said openly that there were countries here in the region that they had never heard about. Moreover, the “media” governs the Americans and so their ways of thinking and opinions are formed by what the media tells them. And the US media is in the hands of Jews which explains why Zionist propaganda is both strong and influential. It is not necessarily that support or sympathy for Israel is due to American compassion but it is due mainly to the impact of false and misleading articles in the media. A large number of Arab thinkers and writers have called repeatedly for the formation of an Arab lobby in the US similar to that of the Jews but their calls were in vain. It is no secret that the Arabs are not even united within the Arab League so how could they can be united outside? In fact, the representatives of Arab countries to the Arab League are dedicated to expressing their countries’ point of views; others are permanent protesters to any action that would lead to harmony or consensus and some propose nothing but total ignorance.
It could be of considerable use and benefit if there were an Arab media dedicated to addressing Americans and Europeans in their own languages. Despite a large number of reasonable Americans and Europeans who call for dialogue with Islam, the reactions in Europe and America to the terrorist attacks should give us motives and make us realize the necessity for an effective Arab media.
The media war launched against all Arabs and Muslims without distinction, the baseless accusations and the negative depiction of Islam and Muslims have managed to form a wrong public opinion. Why? Because there is no parallel and effective Arab media able to confront the media controlled by Zionism.
A few months ago, however, I called upon Arab money and governments to establish an Arabic CNN to broadcast news, analysis, programs and host symposiums in languages including English, French and Spanish. The proposed Arabic CNN channel would be of immense value in directly addressing the Western world. We would thus present our points of view and our concerns in ways that are understandable to the Western mentality.
The future in fact will no doubt witness many wars and the cultural struggle is one of them but it may well be the most crucial. And we should prepare ourselves for it.
