SAN DIEGO, 18 October — While the US Justice Department insisted that there were no widespread rights violation, particularly involving the Arabs and Muslims in the United States in the wake of the Sept. 11 outrage, more than 700 Arabs and Muslims, including women, have been put behind bars without a shred of evidence to link them with the terror attacks. An Arab who was released from a New York jail a few days ago disclosed that several Arab women, who were arrested over past few weeks and whose names have not been disclosed by the FBI, were in the jail.
Duraid Suleiman, an Iraqi in his late teens, who arrived in the Miami airport seeking political asylum to escape conscription in Iraq, was jailed. His attorney, Hina Askari, said he would be released after the NIS officials complete their interrogations.
