WASHINGTON, 27 October — FBI agents arrested a fifth man Thursday on charges of helping the Sept. 11 terrorists obtain false Virginia identifications.
Victor Lopez-Flores, 33, was charged in a US District Court in Alexandria Thursday for obtaining false Virginia residency papers for Ahmad Saleh Alghamdi, one of the hijackers on United Airlines Flight 175 that crashed into the World Trade Center’s south tower last month in Manhattan.
According to FBI agent Jesus Gomez, Lopez-Flores admitted that on Aug. 2 he also helped obtain false Virginia identification papers for Abdulaziz Alomari, a suicide hijacker on American Airlines flight 11 that crashed into the north tower.
The FBI says that Lopez-Flores took the hijackers to an unnamed lawyer’s office in Arlington, Virginia, to obtain notarized address papers, then to the Department of Motor Vehicles in Arlington to get the false identification.
Lopez-Flores said the “Arab males” paid $80 for each false ID.
Lopez-Flores is the fifth person to be arrested and charged with helping seven of the 19 hijackers obtain false Virginia identification papers.
The judge ordered Lopez-Flores to remain in jail until Monday when the court will hold a preliminary hearing. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 18 years in prison and fined $250,000.
