DHAHRAN, 28 October — King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals will take part in the celebrations marking the 20th year of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd’s reign. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Dukhayyil, rector of KFUPM, has set up two committees to organize programs highlighting the achievements of the Kingdom during the two decades under King Fahd, the university said yesterday.
The university is honored to bear the name of King Fahd, the pioneer of education in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Dukhayyil said. He said this was an occasion to show respect and thanks due the king for his care and attention toward the development of the country.
The rector said King Fahd’s efforts were not restricted to large projects for economic, scientific, medical, industrial and agricultural developments within the country but included assistance to many Arab and Islamic countries as well.
He said KFUPM attained a unique status among the specialized universities in the country as a result of King Fahd’s support and care. The university has lined up several programs to mark the occasion. There will be an exhibition and scientific symposium about petroleum and industrial development during the past two decades.
Meanwhile, in accordance with the recommendations of the Ministry of Education, several educational institutions, government corporations, private establishments and multinational companies have announced that they too will participate in the nationwide celebrations.
Dammam Municipality, financial and business institutions, government bodies and clubs are preparing to organize various functions including exhibitions, carnivals, symposiums and competitions to mark the occasion.
