RIYADH, 28 October — Yemen has extradited to the Kingdom 21 people who allegedly fled the country before and after the Sept. 11 terror attacks on the United States, a newspaper reported yesterday.
Al-Watan daily quoted sources in Sanaa as saying the suspects had crossed the borders between the two countries and took shelter with Yemeni tribes.
But the daily did not say if the fugitives were linked to the terror attacks in the United States. The report could not be immediately confirmed independently.
Interior Minister Prince Naif visited Sanaa on Monday and his talks, which focused on a bilateral border agreement, also dealt with the "current situation and fighting terrorism".
Prince Naif said on Oct. 20 that a small number of Saudis were taken in for questioning following the US terror attacks, but denied they were supporters of Osama Bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda organization.
The 21 suspects reportedly belong to southwestern Saudi Arabia, where between six and 10 suspected hijackers of the planes involved in the Sept. 11 attacks allegedly hail from.
Sanaa and Riyadh have a bilateral security agreement covering extradition of criminals.
