ALKHOBAR, 11 November — A middle-aged Pakistani housewife was brutally murdered inside her apartment here yesterday morning during what appears to be a burglary attempt. The police are investigating the case and theft is suspected to be the prime motive.
The victim was the wife of an executive of Saleh Abahsain Group of Companies. The family has been residing in the Kingdom for several years.
According to relatives, the woman had tried to telephone her daughter — who is married and also living in Alkhobar — at around 8.15 a.m. By that time her husband had already left for work, their other children to school and the woman was alone at home.
The phone was picked up by her son-in-law, but the line went dead before they could start the conversation.
The son-in-law tried to call her back but the line was constantly busy. In desperation, he called his father-in-law at work and asked him whether anything was important.
The Pakistani executive told his son-in-law that everything was perfectly fine when he left for office and that they had their breakfast together.
However, when he returned home at around 11 a.m., he found his wife dead. Her skull was split open and it appeared that she was hit on the head with a heavy object.
Many valuables, including jewelry and household appliances, were reported to be missing from the house.
The woman was in her late forties and hailed from Gujarat in Pakistan.
The Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh, when contacted by Arab News, refused to comment.
However, the embassy officials expressed confidence that the Saudi investigators would soon arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
