JEDDAH, 18 November — A Teleban soldier, who fled to Pakistan after the fall of Kabul to the Northern Alliance last week, has said that a Saudi aid worker reported to be missing in Afghanistan since Nov. 7 is in the custody of the Northern Alliance, Al-Watan newspaper said yesterday.
Nasir Muhammad Al-Ghilan, director of the Islamabad branch of Al-Haramain Charitable Foundation, was reported to be missing after he went to Kabul on Nov. 5 to supervise the distribution of relief supplies there.
Maula Khan Agha, who left Kabul in the company of other Taleban soldiers on Tuesday, told Al-Watan in Islamabad that he had seen the Saudi aid worker along with four Afghans who were arrested by the Northern Alliance troops.
He said the four Afghans had been working as guards at the Saudi Embassy in Kabul.
Agha said before he left Kabul, he had asked an official at the Afghan Foreign Ministry to help those present in the Saudi Embassy to move out.
He said Al-Ghilan, who was staying in the residence of the former Saudi charge d’affaires in Kabul, was in good shape and in the protection of the Northern Alliance.
Agha added that he had sent someone to inquire about the condition of the Saudi and his companions and to bring them, if possible, to Pakistani territory.
The Riyadh-based Al-Haramain Foundation has been active in aid operations in Pakistan for the last eight years.
