JEDDAH, 23 November — Have you heard about the plan to put up a bank owned by Filipinos migrant workers around the world?
Yes or no, for those at Industrial City in Jeddah who are interested, a discussion on the topic will held at the Jeddah Industrial City outdoor basketball court on Nov. 2, starting at 6 p.m.
OFWs who have been participating in the discussion via Internet will be on hand to explain and answer queries on the proposed OFWBank project.
According to Jimmy Leonida, a former president of the Jeddah-based OFW Cooperative Council, the proposed bank is being initiated by Filipino banking and investment specialists based in the United States, the Middle East, and elsewhere, as well as those in the Philippines.
Based on the e-mails posted in [email protected] by those who have been participating in the discussion, more and more overseas Filipinos have already signed up as founding members.
Leonida said they are encouraging every OFW to join the discussion, either through the Internet or by attending the Talakayan, to have an idea of the plan.
A corporation licensed by the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Manila has reportedly been set up to initially serve as vehicle in the organizing work.
In the Talakayan at Industrial City on Nov. 2, Rolly Amaranto, an OFW in Jeddah who is increasingly becoming popular for his music album Awit Abroad, will render an intermission song number dedicated to all Filipinos overseas.
Amaranto’s album, which is now being distributed throughout the Middle East, feature various singers in Manila who interpreted his compositions. Among them are Nora Aunor, Richard Villanueva, Nonoy Zuñiga and Claudine Barreto.
