ALKHOBAR, 26 November — Over sixty percent of the Filipinos who took the special licensure examination for electrical and mechanical engineers held in the Kingdom last month have passed.

A list released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) in Manila on Nov. 22 showed that 32 of the passers were among 82 individuals who took the exams for electrical engineers.

Romeo Munda, president of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) chapter in the Eastern Region, said 27 are new registered electrical engineers (REE), and five are registered mechanical engineers (RME), and 18 of the passers are now professional electrical engineers (PEE).

Of the 73 who took the test for mechanical engineers in Jeddah and Alkhobar, 35 passed. Three more passed the test for certified plant mechanics. The total number of passers does not include those who passed the exam for professional mechanical engineers, whose names were announced right after the test.

Of the 35 passers of the RME test, three were in the "deferred registration" status pending compliance of some requirements, said Muhidin S. Kome, spokesman of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) chapter in the Western Region.

It was still unclear if there were any passers among those who took the test for civil engineers. The PRC team administered the exams for all three professions simultaneously in Jeddah.

In Riyadh where the first leg of the exams were held, only electrical engineers were involved. In Alkhobar, the last leg, only electrical and mechanical engineers participated. Passers of the test for professional electrical engineers (PEE) and professional mechanical engineers (PME) have been announced right after the examinations.

PEE’s and PMEs are a step higher than the registered mechanical and electrical engineers.

The special exams were administered by PRC licensing director Amelia Empaynado, supervised by PRC commissioner Alfonso Abad and BEE chairman Rodolfo Penalosa. Also with them were BEE members Jose Abinoja and Antonio Coronel, and IIEE national president Fe Barrientos.
